Dot and the Kangaroo

A little girl gets lost in the Australian outback. Her name is Dot. She cannot find the way home. Then she comes across a kangaroo. The kangaroo decides to help her. She carries the girl in her pouch. The two of them set out to look for the house. Other animals join them along the way. Koalas, platypuses and kookaburras. All of them sing. The drawn characters were laid over footage of the real country. The account comes from Ethel Pedley’s children’s book of 1899. The film puts drawing and real footage together. It was made for children. The kangaroo has lost a young one of her own. Barbara Frawley and Spike Milligan give the voices in the seventy five minute animation, an Australian production Yoram Gross finished in 1977.
