What Downloaded Is About
The documentary tells the story of Napster: a program written by two young men that within months became a network on which millions of people shared music, and which the record industry took to court as theft. Its best quality is that it talked to everyone; the founders are here and so are the musicians who sued them. Napster closed but the question it raised did not, because today's digital music arrangement came out of that fight. The director is Alex Winter, the actor from the Bill and Ted films. The telling leans slightly towards the founders' side.
