Dreaming Murakami

Mette Holm is a translator. She translates Haruki Murakami into Danish. The work in front of her is his first novel. The novel is called Hear the Wind Sing. As the translation goes on, something appears. A two metre frog turns up at an underground station in Tokyo. The frog starts following her. It has a war to tell her about. A giant worm is waking underground. The frog wants the translator to join that fight. Mette meanwhile is wrestling with sentences. What are Murakami’s solitary, daydreaming characters trying to say. And how should that be said in Danish. The line between the real and the imagined slowly blurs. Mette Holm talks through her own translation in the fifty eight minute documentary, a Danish and Japanese co-production Nitesh Anjaan finished in 2017.
