Dying to Tell

A director who reported from war zones for twenty years tells how everything he had stored up came down on him at once after an accident in Afghanistan in 2012. When depression, loneliness and self harming behaviour began, he decided to talk with other journalists in order to understand what had happened to him. He asks them about their traumas, their losses, their fears and their families. The documentary takes as its subject the price paid by those who report on war, and says that this price most often stays invisible. That the director puts his own story at the centre of the account turns the film from an inquiry into a reckoning. Hernan Zin’s eighty seven minute Spanish documentary was completed in 2019.
