What Ella Cinders Is About
Ella Cinders, badly used by her stepmother and stepsisters, wins a local beauty contest and with it a chance to leave a dead end life: the prize is a promised job in Hollywood. When she gets there the contest turns out to have been a swindle and the job does not exist. She gets into pictures anyway, on stubbornness, luck and talent. Alfred E. Green's 1926 silent was adapted from a comic strip and turns the Cinderella story back onto Hollywood itself. Colleen Moore leads, and the jabs at the film business in the studio scenes are the most enjoyable part.
