Everything About Her

Joyce E. Bernal's 2016 Filipino film follows Vivian, a businesswoman who falls ill. She is a hard executive, and the nurse who takes on her care and the son she is estranged from come back into her life. The film builds a balance among three people. Vivian insists she needs no one; the narrative does not use the illness as a softener and makes reconciliation slow to come. Vilma Santos and Angel Locsin play opposite each other, and much of the film's draw rested on that. The tone sits between drama and comedy. Who it's for: those who like Filipino melodrama and performance-driven films. Who it's not for: viewers for whom illness narratives would be difficult; the film also shows the treatment.
