Fanaa

Zooni, a blind woman who comes from Kashmir to Delhi for a dance performance, meets Rehan, a tour guide, and sees the city through his descriptions. The romance moves fast, and then in the second half the film becomes something else entirely: who Rehan is comes out, and years later Zooni meets the same man again, now with her sight. Kunal Kohli tries to hold romance and political thriller in one story and the choice strains both. Aamir Khan and Kajol lead, with Kajol returning after five years away. The songs, Chand Sifarish in particular, were a large success. It could not be shown in Gujarat, because of what Aamir Khan had said about those displaced by the Narmada dam. Who it is for: viewers who like Indian romantic drama and the pairing of Aamir and Kajol. Who it is not for: anyone expecting the two halves to be consistent.
