What Far Side of the Moon Is About
Philippe has just failed the defence of his doctoral thesis for the second time and cannot get his life to come together. The thesis is about the part narcissism played in the Soviet and American space programmes. His mother has died, and the only family he has left is a brother who is his opposite in every particular: a gay man who reads the weather on television and keeps everything in order. Robert Lepage adapted it from his own stage piece and plays both brothers himself. A mirror, the door of a washing machine, a fish tank: the film moves on visual ideas carried over from the stage. It took the FIPRESCI prize at Berlin in 2004. Grief, envy and the urge to look at space all belong to the same story.
