Fear of Rain

A high school girl diagnosed with schizophrenia becomes convinced her neighbour is holding a child in her house. Neither her parents nor she can trust what she sees. The film makes that uncertainty its instrument of tension and shows the delusions as images, so the viewer is no surer than she is. Its best decision is that even when it supplies an answer, it does not present her illness as a power or a gift. Castille Landon wrote and directed. Madison Iseman leads, with Katherine Heigl as her mother. Before watching: its portrayal of mental illness was argued over, with some viewers finding schizophrenia used as thriller material objectionable. It also contains medication and hospital scenes.
