Fly

Christina Clusiau and Shaul Schwarz's 2024 documentary follows three couples across seven years. All of them BASE jump, a sport with a high death rate. The subject is not the jumping but living together. One partner jumps while the other waits; the narrative puts that waiting, and the permission given, at the centre, and does not try to convince anyone. Deaths in the surrounding community enter the film during the years of shooting, and the couples' decisions change. The images are built from aerial shots, yet the film does not turn that into spectacle. Who it's for: viewers of extreme sport documentary and of stories about relationships. Who it's not for: viewers for whom the passages about fatal accidents would be difficult.
