Skywalkers: A Love Story

Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus are two Russians who climb the world's tallest buildings without permission and photograph themselves at the top. They have worked together for years, they live together, and their income depends entirely on social media. Then the relationship breaks down and they plan one last job: the top of Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur, at the time the second tallest building in the world. Jeff Zimbalist and Maria Bukhonina built the film from footage the pair shot themselves over years; the climbing is real and there are no safety lines. It is a love story and also a film about the economy of social media: the greater the risk the more followers, and stopping becomes impossible. It played at Sundance and went out on Netflix. Who it is for: viewers who like extreme sports documentary and footage from great heights. Who it is not for: anyone afraid of heights.
