What Fog Over Frisco Is About
Arlene, a wealthy socialite, gets mixed up with criminals as much for the thrill as for the money, and at a certain point she disappears. Her half-sister Val goes after her with the help of a reporter and a society columnist. William Dieterle directed; the film runs sixty-eight minutes and, to fit everything into that, uses fast wipes instead of fades and overlaps its sound. Bette Davis plays Arlene and Margaret Lindsay plays Val. It was shot in nineteen days between 22 January and 10 February 1934 and opened on 2 June. It belongs to the stretch just before the Hays rules tightened.
