What Gambling, Gods and LSD Is About
Peter Mettler sets out to look for the ways people reach past the ordinary. The journey starts in Toronto and runs to Las Vegas, to Switzerland and to present day India; gambling, belief and drugs are set side by side as different forms of the same search. The three hour film does not build an argument; it moves like a poem woven out of image and sound. The passages are joined by association rather than by logic. The director speaks in his own voice and says less about what he found than about what he was looking at. The hundred and eighty minute Canadian documentary was completed in 2002.
