What Go Away Mr. Tumor Is About
Xiong Dun is a comic artist approaching thirty whose work and love life are both going badly. Then she is diagnosed with lymphoma. Instead of lying in a hospital room, she starts drawing her own illness: she gives the tumour a character and fights it, turns her doctor into the hero of a series in her head, stages the chemotherapy as a scene. Her friends get pulled into the game with her. Han Yan's film is a true story. Xiong Dun's web comics about her illness were widely read in China, and she died in 2012 at the age of thirty. Bai Baihe plays her. The film was submitted as China's entry for the 2015 Academy Awards.
