Go for Broke!

The story of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, formed in 1943. The unit is made up entirely of Japanese American volunteers. Their training is run by Lieutenant Mike Grayson, who does not hide his prejudices. The unit fights first in Italy and then in France, and what Grayson thinks about his men slowly collapses in the field. What the film never skips is this: while these soldiers were at the front, their own families were confined to camps in America. One soldier sends a parcel to his family in a camp and explains why they volunteered: to show they are good Americans and to get those camps closed. Six real veterans of the 442nd appear in Robert Pirosh's production. The 442nd would end the war as the most decorated unit for its size in the United States Army.
