Go Goa Gone

Three friends go to an island off Goa for an illegal party. There is a new pill going round. When they wake the next morning everyone on the island has turned into a zombie. While trying to get away they run into a blond armed man with a Russian accent: Boris introduces himself as a zombie hunter and agrees to help them. Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. direct. Saif Ali Khan plays Boris, and Kunal Khemu, Vir Das and Anand Tiwari play the three friends. It is cited as the first zombie comedy made in India; the genre had until then found no place in mainstream Indian cinema. The humour comes from the characters refusing to take the situation seriously; all three have seen zombie films and argue about the rules. Saif Ali Khan is also among the producers and his character is entirely parody; the Russian accent is deliberately bad. The drug strand sits in the narrative as a criticism, and the film does not turn it into a lesson. Raj and DK later became known for television series, and this film is an early example of their manner. Who it is for: viewers who like Indian genre mixes and zombie films. Who it is not for: the humour is coarse, the middle repeats, and the zombie work is technically weak.
