Hey Bartender

The documentary is about the work behind the bar. It follows two bartenders. One is a former marine who was injured in service. His aim is to become head bartender at the best cocktail bar in the world. He starts from the bottom to get there. The other left a white collar job. He bought the corner bar in his home town. Years later he is struggling to keep it open. The film runs the two stories side by side. In between, well known figures in the trade talk. It gets inside bars in New York that are hard to enter. The return of the cocktail to fashion is set out. So is the return of bartending as a craft. What the work costs, and its hours, are shown as well. Leading figures of the trade appear in the ninety two minute documentary, an American production Douglas Tirola finished in 2013.
