What Hit the Ice Is About
Two newspaper photographers happen to photograph a bank robbery. The robbers notice and draw the pair to the mountain hotel where they are hiding out. An old friend of theirs is at the hotel with his band. Before the photographers work out what has happened to them, they have to run from gangsters and ski at the same time. Charles Lamont's film is one of the comedies Abbott and Costello made one after another during the war. The skiing and ice scenes are the show; the verbal routines run in the pair's usual order. Harry James's band appears in the musical numbers. The story is only a pretext; the comedy is built entirely on the two of them talking over each other, and the pace never drops.
