Ma and Pa Kettle at Home

The Kettle family has fourteen children. One of the sons is Elwin. Elwin enters an essay competition. The subject is life on a typical American farm. He dressed up what he wrote and did not tell the truth. His girlfriend Sally wins the same competition. The prize is a four-year scholarship. But first the judges will see both farms. The decision will rest on the setting the children are raised in. The Kettle farm is falling apart. The neighbour Maddocks’s place is well kept. The family tries to put the house right in a few days. The father spends the first of the prize money on goats. The goats get into the house and wreck it. Marjorie Main and Percy Kilbride take the leads in Charles Lamont’s American film of 1954.
