Homolka and Pocketbook

The Homolka family goes on holiday. Ludva and his wife Hedus, their twin sons Péta and Máta, and Ludva’s parents all travel to a snowy mountain town. Because the holiday is expensive they make each other a promise: there will be no quarrelling. Whoever breaks the rule will kneel as a punishment. The promise does not last long. The film gives the squabbling inside a family not as something cruel but as a familiar comedy. Three generations in the same narrow space is the real material. Josef Šebánek and Marie Motlová take the leads, with Helena Růžičková also in the cast. Jaroslav Papoušek’s eighty five minute Czechoslovak film was completed in 1972.
