What Hotel Berlin Is About
In the last days of the Second World War, people of very different kinds gather in a hotel in Berlin: a man on the run, a general, an actress, party members and the hotel staff. As the Third Reich comes down, every one of them is making his own calculation; some choose to run, some to save themselves, some to go on believing until the last moment. The film tells the end of the war not at the front but in a hotel corridor. It was adapted from the novel by Vicki Baum and reached cinemas before the war was over. Raymond Massey and Peter Lorre appear in Peter Godfrey’s ninety eight minute American film, completed in 1945.
