What House of Numbers Is About

Bill Judlow works out a plan to get his twin brother Arnie, convicted of murder, out of San Quentin. The plan is simple and for that very reason fragile: Arnie’s wife Ruth and Bill will visit as husband and wife, and at one moment the brothers will change places. But Ruth’s loyalty to the husband inside is tested by the feeling growing between her and Bill, and the whole business rests on that dilemma. Adapted from a novel by Jack Finney, the film was shot around the real prison. Jack Palance plays both brothers in Russell Rouse’s ninety minute American film; Barbara Lang is also in it and the production was completed in 1957.
