What Wicked Woman Is About
Billie Nash arrives in town with nothing in her pockets and takes a job pouring drinks in a bar. She works on the owner’s husband until he agrees to swindle his alcoholic wife and run off with her to Mexico, but a leering neighbour in the same rooming house wants Billie for himself and the plan starts to come apart. Russell Rouse directed, and wrote and produced with Clarence Greene, for a United Artists release in December 1953. The film never hides how little it cost; the cheap rooms and corridors only thicken its tawdry air. Beverly Michaels brings a lazy-voiced confidence that turned the picture into a cult item, and she and Rouse married a few years later.
