I Am Durán

Roberto Durán grew up shining shoes on the street in Panama and became one of the best known boxers in the world. He won world titles at four different weights. The documentary covers his rise, his fall and his return. The fights with Sugar Ray Leonard and the rivalry between them make up its longest stretch. Mat Hodgson's documentary tells Durán's career together with the political situation in Panama in those years, and in particular the tension with the United States over the canal. That connection is one the film makes, and it stands openly on Durán's side. Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler and Robert De Niro are among those speaking. There is plenty of archive fight footage.
