What I Not Stupid Is About
Three twelve year old boys in Singapore have been placed in the bottom EM3 stream on the strength of their exam results, which is the state saying they are less able than their classmates. Kok Pin wants to draw and his parents insist on mathematics; Boon Hock runs between school and his father’s food stall; Terry is spoiled and idle. Jack Neo tracks the pressure on the children without neglecting the corners their parents are painted into. Dressed as comedy, the film is a plain criticism of the country’s education system, became one of the most watched Singaporean pictures ever made, and got a sequel.
