What Illegitimate Is About

A dinner. The father is a gynaecologist, his four children are grown. The talk turns to the Ceaușescu years and one of them says their father informed on women who came to him for abortions. The table breaks up. Then the second thing comes out: the twins, Sasha and Romeo, are involved with each other and she is pregnant. This time the family has no idea what to do. The father's morality and what the children have done are in the same room, and nobody is in a position to judge anybody. Adrian Sitaru directs the Romanian film; eighty-five minutes, with Adrian Titieni as the father. Some of the dialogue is improvised. It showed in the Forum section at Berlin in 2016. Abortion was banned in Romania from 1966 to 1989, and that ban is the film's background.
