What Passages Is About
A director who has just finished a film leaves the man he has been with for years, starts an affair with a woman, and then wants both at once. Ira Sachs refuses to make this a story of discovery: the protagonist is selfish, insistent and listens to nobody, and the film does not defend him. The scenes are short and sharp with no explanation. Franz Rogowski makes no attempt to render him likeable, which is why it works. The sex is explicit and caused an argument about ratings in some countries.
