What I'm All Right Jack Is About
I'm All Right Jack, directed by brothers John and Roy Boulting, is a British comedy adapted from Alan Hackney's novel Private Life, satirizing management, union, and worker relations at a munitions factory. Peter Sellers delivered one of the most memorable performances of his career as militant shop steward Fred Kite, winning the BAFTA for Best Actor; the film also won a BAFTA for its screenplay. It was the highest grossing film at the British box office in 1959. Who it's for: anyone curious about a British industrial satire that takes aim at union leaders, lazy workers, and corrupt bosses alike, and won Peter Sellers a BAFTA. Who it's not for: those looking for an adaptation of one specific real strike, since the film is a general caricature of 1950s British industry rather than a depiction of a single real event.
