What The Family Way Is About
Arthur and Jenny have just married, and when the honeymoon in Spain falls through they end up living with his parents. Thin walls, doors that will not stay shut, relatives coming and going: weeks pass and the two of them are never once left alone. The town starts talking, and their marriage becomes everyone's business before it has properly begun. Roy Boulting's 1966 film uses comedy to talk about embarrassment, privacy and what fathers hand down to sons. Hayley Mills and Hywel Bennett play the couple, and Hayley's own father, John Mills, plays Arthur's. Paul McCartney wrote the score, his first for a feature.
