What Thunder Rock Is About
David Charleston, once a well known journalist, now lives alone tending a lighthouse on Lake Michigan; he does not cash his paycheques and speaks to nobody except the inspector who comes once a month. Alone, he imagines conversations with the people who died when a passenger ship went down there in the last century, inventing their lives, their fears and their hopes. In those conversations he goes back to his own past, to the thirties when he tried to warn about fascism and nobody would listen. Roy Boulting made it in the middle of the war, and it is about staying rather than withdrawing.
