What I’m Glad My Mother Is Alive Is About
This 2009 film, directed by Claude Miller with his son Nathan Miller, comes from a real case; the source is a piece Emmanuel Carrère published in a weekly in 1990. Thomas was left by his mother at four and adopted, and as an adult he goes looking for her without telling his adoptive parents or his brother. When he finds her he starts living a second life alongside the first, and it will not carry either of them. The film neither condemns the mother nor excuses the son; it is about the particular silence that being given away produces in a person. Carrère and Alain Le Henry wrote the screenplay with the Millers.
