What Indian Summer Is About
Daniele is a worn-out literature teacher who arrives in Rimini in winter to cover four months at a secondary school, and spends most of his time at a card table with a few men as adrift as he is. What starts between him and Vanina, nineteen and in his class, saves neither of them; it pulls them both down. The Italian title means the first quiet night, and the film is about what that quiet turns out to be. Cold, empty and hopeless, with one of Delon's best performances.
