Innocence of Memories

Orhan Pamuk opened a museum in Istanbul. It is called the Museum of Innocence. The objects inside it come not from a real family but from a novel. They carry the traces of a love affair set in the nineteen seventies. That love ends unhappily. The film takes the objects in the museum as its starting point. Each one opens onto a memory and onto a street. The account walks through Istanbul at night. Empty streets, waterfronts and lights follow one another. Among the voices there is a narrator called Ayla. The story of Kemal runs through those voices too. Fact and fiction are mixed into each other. The writer, the city and the novel stand inside the same account. The documentary is about memory and about loss. Pandora Colin and Mehmet Ergen take part in the ninety seven minute documentary. It is a Turkish and British co-production Grant Gee finished in 2016.
