Itsi Bitsi

The film rests on the life of the Danish poet and singer Eik Skaløe. In 1966 Skaløe founded the band Steppeulvene, and in 1967 they released the album Hip. He fell in love with the peace activist Iben Nagel Rasmussen, and the name he gave her was Itsi Bitsi. That name passed into the band’s best known song as well. The relationship runs up against the free living of the time; Skaløe wants her to himself, and Iben will not be bound by such a promise. The poet tries to get past it with poems, with songs and with persistence. In 1968 he set off east on his own. In the autumn of that year he was found dead at Firozpur, on the border of India and Pakistan. Ola Rapace and Thure Lindhardt appear in Ole Christian Madsen’s hundred and seven minute film, a coproduction of three countries, completed in 2015.
