What Iz zhizni otdykhayushchikh Is About
At the end of autumn, in a Soviet seaside resort whose season is nearly over, two people meet. Both keep to themselves, and both have almost made their peace with being alone. Between long dinners, conversations that seem to be about nothing and emptying corridors, something starts to form between them. The film does not announce this as a love story; it shows how two people change while they talk, and it brings the out of season emptiness of the resort into the account as well. The other guests at the resort fill that emptiness with stories of their own. Regimantas Adomaitis and Zhanna Bolotova appear in Nikolai Gubenko’s eighty minute film, completed in 1981.
