Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa

This is the only Jackass film with an actual narrative. Eighty-six-year-old Irving drives his grandson Billy across America to hand him over to his father. Most of the people around them do not know a film is being made. The cameras are hidden and the reactions are real, which puts it closer to Borat than to the earlier entries. Johnny Knoxville's old age makeup took three and a half hours every morning, with another five needed for shirtless scenes. Head makeup artist Stephen Prouty was nominated for Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the 86th Academy Awards for it. Knoxville had spotted Jackson Nicoll, who plays Billy, while shooting Fun Size in 2012. The riskiest work in the film belongs to the child, since insulting strangers is his job. Critics singled out the beauty pageant sequence as the best thing in it. On a 15 million dollar budget it grossed 152 million worldwide and opened at number one with 32 million. Who it is for: fans of hidden camera comedy and of the series. Who it is not for: viewers with weak stomachs, or anyone uneasy about filming real people without consent. That objection is not unreasonable.
