What Jesus Christ Saviour Is About
On the evening of 20 November 1971 Klaus Kinski walked alone onto the stage of the Deutschlandhalle in West Berlin and began to read a long text he had written himself, largely assembled from the New Testament, about the life of Jesus. Heckling from the nearly five thousand people in the hall started within five minutes; Kinski fought the room, altered the words of the text to answer his tormentors, walked off and came back. After more than six hours only a handful of people were left, and he finished the text for them in a hoarse, exhausted voice. Peter Geyer’s eighty four minute German documentary was built from the recording of that night and screened at the Berlin Film Festival in 2008.
