What Kim Dotcom: Caught in the Web Is About
On the morning of 20 January 2012, New Zealand police came down on Kim Dotcom's mansion with two helicopters. He founded Megaupload, one of the largest file-sharing sites in the world; the United States wants to try him for copyright infringement and has asked for his extradition. The documentary covers both Dotcom's own story and the case itself: whether the raid was lawful, the unlawful surveillance by New Zealand's intelligence service, the pressure from Hollywood, and what ownership means in the digital age. Annie Goldson directs, with Lawrence Lessig, Glenn Greenwald and Jimmy Wales among those speaking. A hundred and eight minutes. The film gives Dotcom a great deal of room and is sympathetic to him; the prosecution's case is put, but the weight of the film sits on the defence side.
