Kim

Kim is a boy who grew up on the streets in India; he is the orphaned son of a British soldier but is so much part of the place that he takes himself for a local. One day he attaches himself to a Buddhist holy man searching for a sacred river and sets out with him. At the same time the British secret service wants to use him. Kim comes to belong to both sides. Victor Saville directed the film from Rudyard Kipling's novel. Errol Flynn and Dean Stockwell take the leads. Some scenes were shot in India, and for its time it is a lavish studio piece; but the world it describes is British colonial rule's own view of itself. The spying game is offered as adventure and colonialism itself is not up for discussion. Kipling's novel is argued about today for the same reason.
