Komada - A Whisky Family

Kotaro goes to the Komada distillery on an assignment about Japanese craft whisky. The distillery is run by Rui, a young woman who took over the family business. What the team is working at is remaking Koma, a whisky they had to stop producing years ago. But there is no money, and too much of the old process is missing. The film does not build this as a story of success; it tells how hard it is to bring back something that was lost. The weight of taking over a family business is given through Rui. The craft itself, the recipe and the patience hold a place of their own in the account. Saori Hayami and Kensho Ono are among the voices. Masayuki Yoshihara’s ninety one minute Japanese animation was completed in 2023.
