What The Lamb Is About

Medine belongs to the poorest family in the village. Her son Mert is to be circumcised. She wants a feast for it, however small. A feast is how a family is seen in the village. Lamb has to be on the table. There is no money in the house for a lamb. Her husband İsmail has his mind elsewhere. He is thinking about a singer who has come to town. Mert’s older sister Vicdan tells the boy something. She says that if no lamb is found he will be slaughtered instead. The child believes her. In fear he sets out to find a lamb himself. The day of the feast comes closer while Medine deals with poverty and with what the village expects. The film was shown in the Panorama section at the Berlinale and took the best film award at Antalya. It was shot entirely in Erzincan. Nesrin Cavadzade and Cahit Gök appear in the eighty seven minute film, a German and Turkish production Kutluğ Ataman finished in 2014.
