L.A. Story

A comedy set in Los Angeles. Harris presents the weather on television. Since the weather in the city is always the same he records his bulletins in advance and shoots next week's broadcast on a Friday. His life is much the same: the relationship he has been in for a long time is over, his work is meaningless and his days repeat. One day an electronic sign on the freeway starts sending him messages directly. It tells him what to do and asks him questions in return. Harris does what the sign says. Meanwhile he meets Sara, an English journalist. While telling a love story the film also mocks the city: coffee orders, restaurant reservations, health fads, freeway traffic and everyone constantly believing in something. The register is not realistic; the scenes go somewhere fabulous at times and the film does not explain it. Steve Martin wrote the screenplay and stars. Victoria Tennant plays Sara, Richard E. Grant a friend and Sarah Jessica Parker a young woman. Mick Jackson directed. A pleasant choice for anyone who likes the romantic comedies of the 1990s and satire about cities. For a viewer expecting realism, the film uses its fantastic elements without explanation.
