What La torre de los siete jorobados Is About
Madrid at the end of the nineteenth century. Basilio is a reckless young man about town; one day he starts seeing the ghost of a dead professor. Nobody but Basilio can see the ghost. The professor asks him for one thing: to look after his niece Inés, because she is in grave danger. Basilio takes up the business whether he wants to or not. Edgar Neville's film was made in Spain in the years after the war and puts comedy and fantastic thriller together. The source is a novel by Emilio Carrere. The idea of a hidden world under Madrid, and the line of the sets, still give the film a strange power. It is counted among the most remembered genre pieces in Spanish cinema.
