What The Crime of Bordadores Street Is About
In Madrid at the end of the nineteenth century a wealthy woman is found dead in her home and the chief suspect is her maid. But the maid’s statement, instead of settling the matter, tangles it further; parts of what she says hold and parts do not. As the investigation goes on it turns out that everyone around the house has an interest of their own, and the newspapers begin telling the story as they please. The film is less about solving a murder than about how a culprit is chosen in public opinion. The account builds the Madrid of the period in detail. Manuel Luna and Mary Delgado appear in Edgar Neville’s eighty eight minute Spanish film, completed in 1946.
