Lammbock

Two friends run a pizza place in Wurzburg. The item not on the menu is weed; orders come by phone and arrive with the pizza. One is studying for his law exam, the other wants to scale up. When the police take an interest, the partnership starts to crack. Christian Zubert wrote and directed. Lucas Gregorowicz plays Stefan, Moritz Bleibtreu plays Kai. The film became a cult item in Germany and stayed in circulation on its lines alone. How the sequel happened is the interesting part: in summer 2015 Bleibtreu asked his Facebook followers whether they wanted a second one, and the response got the project made. Lommbock shot in 2016 and opened in March 2017, again written and directed by Zubert. The first film's strength is not its plot but the near-improvised rhythm between its two leads. It counts as one of the first stoner comedies made to work in German. Who it is for: fans of character-led German comedy with a loose plot. Who it is not for: viewers wanting critical distance; the film treats drugs as background, not problem.
