What Let's Not Get Angry Is About
Antoine, a former gangster who has built a quiet life renting boats in Marseille, is pulled back in when two men from his past turn up: money has vanished and too many people are looking for it. Georges Lautner does not build a crime story, he plays straight for comedy and makes the violence ridiculous by exaggerating it. Lino Ventura leads, and the comedy works because he never breaks his serious face. Michel Audiard's dialogue is the real material, and the lines are still quoted in France. The mass brawl at the end is one of the most chaotic and enjoyable sequences in the genre. Who it is for: viewers who like sixties French crime comedy and Audiard's dialogue. Who it is not for: anyone wanting plot, since this rests on lines and character types.
