Life in a Day 2020

A documentary that records a single day. The method is simple: people all over the world are asked to film on the same day. The date is 25 July 2020. A film is then edited from what is sent in. That day falls within the pandemic. Because of it most of the footage comes from inside houses: closed streets, masks, funerals held over screens and empty squares. The film follows the course of the day. It begins in the morning, moves through the day and ends at night. Questions are asked between the sections: what is in your pocket, what do you love, what are you afraid of. People answer to camera. The narrative makes no comment and draws no conclusion; it sets the images side by side. A birth, a death, a wedding, a demonstration and a meal follow one another. The total length of the recordings sent from a hundred and thirty countries is very long, and it was cut down to a film of two hours. It is the sequel to an earlier film; the first was made by the same method in 2010. Kevin Macdonald directed. Ridley Scott is among the producers. An interesting production for anyone who likes documentary and attempts at a collective portrait. For a viewer expecting a narrative, the film builds no story and consists entirely of pieces.
