Abbas Kiarostami films almost the whole thing in cars and closed rooms, caring less about what happens than about what these people tell each other. It was his second film made outside Iran and the habits are unchanged: long takes, events kept out of frame, histories left unexplained. The old man passing himself off as her grandfather is the real knot. The ending is abrupt by design.
