What Little Girl Is About
Patty is a circus performer living with her husband Walter in a trailer park in San Basilio, on the outer edge of Rome, when she finds a two-year-old girl abandoned in a park nearby. She takes the child in for what everyone treats as a temporary arrangement, helped by Tairo, a teenager who lives in the next container with his grandmother, while Walter worries that they will be accused of kidnapping and considers going to the police. A letter from the mother eventually arrives, promising to collect the girl in two days, and a farewell party is prepared for a woman who never turns up. Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel shot it with non-professionals and took it to the Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes in 2009, where it won the Europa Cinemas Label.
