What Louis Theroux: Law and Disorder in Philadelphia Is About
Louis Theroux goes to Philadelphia, one of the American cities with the highest crime rates, and rides along with police units patrolling the north of the city. He also talks to the people who live on those same streets. The documentary listens to both sides: officers working under constant threat, and residents who are stopped constantly. Emma Cooper's sixty-nine minute BBC documentary follows Theroux's familiar method: he asks, he does not argue, he does not back anyone into a corner, and he lets whoever is speaking account for themselves. The result clears nobody and blames nobody on their own. The film was both praised and criticised when it went out.
